Following the buzz created by this, the young student leader has defended the 50-aide appoint for her administration.

Alims responded to the online backlash surrounding the recent appointments through her Press Secretary, Madueke Chinenye.

The UNICAL SUG president clarified that her goal was to promote efficient governance and prioritize the well-being of the University of Calabar’s vast student body, comprising over 42,000 individuals spread across 20 faculties and 110 departments.

“The Students’ Union Government is tasked with ensuring the welfare and progress of our entire university community,” she stated. “Just as a single tree does not make a forest, effective governance for a student body of over 42,000 requires a collaborative effort. It is essential to have a strong and diverse team to implement our initiatives successfully.”

Alims further emphasized that the appointed positions are unpaid and voluntary, with no financial compensation, denoting her commitment to gathering dedicated individuals who share her vision for the university’s progress.

“They are designed to foster career development, instilling a sense of duty and motivation in the appointees. Each aide underwent a rigorous screening process by the Senate Committee, took an Oath of Office, and is eager to contribute their skills and creativity to the administration,” she added.
