Sunshine Stars Coach, Kennedy Boboye Wants To Win Third NPFL Title

Sunshine Stars’ coach, Kennedy Boboye, is setting his sights on a third Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title as the club prepares for the 2024-2025 season.

After successfully steering Sunshine Stars through a challenging relegation battle in the previous season, Kennedy Boboye is now determined to lead the team to conquer the league next season.

Having previously achieved NPFL success with Plateau United in 2017 and Akwa United in 2021, Boboye managed to lead Sunshine Stars to a 10th-place finish last season with 52 points after a slow start.

The Ondo state-owned side are currently participating in the Governor Douye Diri Pre-Season tournament in Bayelsa, beginning with a 1-0 victory over hosts Bayelsa United.

Sunshine’s new signing, Ismail Ayodele, impressed with his goal-scoring prowess, securing the only goal of the match in the 35th minute.

Following the win, Boboye emphasized that the tournament serves as an opportunity to assess the players as they strive towards their ultimate goal of clinching the league title.

He emphasized the need for improvement and expressed confidence in the team’s potential, stating, “Our target is to win the league; nothing short of that. We are not there yet… we will be better than what people are seeing here.”

Recall that Boboye has achieved significant milestones with Sunshine Stars, guiding the team to a sixth position in the 2015 NPFL campaign. This was their best finish in the league since their CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup campaigns between 2011 and 2012.
