The Spanish government has warned that striking players will face punishment if they don’t attend their national team camp after being called up.
Victor Francos, the president of Spain’s High Council for Sports (CSD), stated that he would have to apply the country’s sports law if the selected players fail to report.

Meanwhile, new Spain coach Montse Tome recently called up 15 members of the Women’s World Cup-winning squad for upcoming Nations League games.
However, the majority of these players are currently on strike, seeking major changes within the Spanish football federation following the resignation of former President Luis Rubiales.
Spain’s sports law from 2022 mandates that athletes must attend national team call-ups when summoned, and failure to do so would be considered a “very serious” infraction.
Possible fines range from €3,000 to €30,000 ($3,200 to $32,100), and players could also lose their licenses to play for up to five years.
The decision on potential punishments would be made by Spain’s top sports court at the request of the CSD.
Spain is scheduled to play Sweden on September 22 and Switzerland on September 26 in the Nations League. The winners of the Nations League will automatically qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games.
However, efforts have been initiated to resolve the issue, with Francos planning to speak with the players to encourage their participation.
The situation remains tense, with players accusing the Spanish federation of intimidation and threats for calling them up against their will.
