A demolition exercise is ongoing at the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.

Over 10 caterpillars were on sight to demolish the entire complex.

DAILY POST recalls that the complex was gutted by fire on October 29, 2023.

Twenty-seven out of the 32 state lawmakers had accused Speaker Edison Ehie and three other lawmakers of being responsible for the inferno.

This led to the suspension of Ehie and the three others from the Assembly on October 30, 2023.

However, in a separate sitting, Ehie emerged as factional Speaker of the House and suspended Martins Amaewhule as the Speaker of the House, alongside other lawmakers he failed to name.

On Tuesday 12 December, 2023, a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt declared Ehie as the authentic Speaker of the House.

The crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly is predicated on the rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
