Police Arrest 23 Suspects for Burning Tafa LG Secretariat

The Commissioner of Police for Niger State, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, has announced the arrest of 23 individuals suspected of vandalizing and setting fire to the Tafa Local Government Secretariat.

This incident occurred during a hunger and hardship protest that began on August 1, 2024.

At a press briefing in Minna, CP Danmamman described how the suspects not only set fire to the Secretariat but also damaged two cars and looted office equipment, including computers, refrigerators, file cabinets, office fans, chairs, and a television.

The suspects, from various locations, were apprehended with dangerous weapons. Most of the stolen items were recovered, particularly from Kagarko in Kaduna State. The arrested suspects include:

From Sabon-Wuse Tafa, Niger State:

•  Justice Danjuma, 19
•  Ismaila Aliyu, 26
•  Aliyu Betara, 24
•  Musa Sani, 32
•  Yasir Ibrahim, 13
•  Abdullahi Yusuf, 26
•  Bakir Hussain, 15

•  Ahmad Jibrin, 17

•  Abubakar Salisu, 18
•  Yusufu Tijani, 28
•  Lawal Abdullahi, 35
•  Idris Sani, 21
•  Ibrahim Haruna, 35

From Hayin-Dikko, Gurara, Niger State:

•  Ibrahim Nuhu, 18
• Abdulrahman Abubakar, 18

From Komboso, Kano State:

• Saifullahi Usman, 24

Recovered items include wooden benches, office chairs, car mirrors, extension wires, a reflective jacket, a ceiling fan, a laptop, a generator, ceiling sheets, and a television.

CP Danmamman stated that the items have been returned to the Tafa LG Secretariat. The suspects have been transferred to the SCID Minna for further investigation and will face court charges once the investigation is complete.
