The head coach of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club, Remo Stars, Daniel Ogunmodede has stressed that his side are done with recruiting new players for now.

Remo Stars have been one of the most consistent clubs in the NPFL as they have finished second in two successive seasons under the leadership of coach Ogunmodede.

They are currently hosting the 2024 Value Jet Pre-season tournament in Ikenne, Ogun state featuring eight clubs, one of which is Sudanese giants, Al-Merrikh.

Remo Stars proved how big a team they are when they had to produce two separate teams for the tournament after the withdrawal of their football academy side, Beyond Limits, who are one of the four clubs promoted to the NPFL last season.

Despite having to divide his squad into two for the pre-season friendly, Remo Stars are progressing smoothly in their separate groups. Remo Stars B are currently occupying the second spot in Group A with four points in two games, on the same points as first-placed Ikorodu City FC.

The second Remo Stars team are third in Group B with a point in one game. They will take on first-placed Rivers United at 4 p.m. today, July 27.

After the Remo Stars B team defeated Shooting Stars 2-1 on Friday, Naija News asked coach Daniel Ogunmodede the secret behind their sharp counter-attacking flair, the coach said: “Our culture, philosophy, and club tradition. it is just what we are and who we are. The most important thing is having the new players try to adapt to the way we want them to play.”

On whether the ongoing pre-season tournament would contribute to the club’s success next season, the coach responded: “It should contribute [to Remo Success next season]. Nevertheless, maybe we needed more time for training before the competition. But it has come. We don’t have a choice. We will use it as a test match going into the new season. Whether we like it or not, we will always draw positives out of it.”

On the positives drawn from the competition so far, he added: “It is seeing the new players, how they will synergize with the old players and adapt to our club culture and team philosophy of how we play.”

When asked if Remo Stars are considering signing more new players before the 2024-2025 NPFL campaign commences on August 31, the coach responded: “Not for now again. We are done with new players.”
