Naira Abuse: Lawyer Denies Appealing Bobrisky’s Conviction

Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has denied reports making the rounds that he has appealed the conviction of controversial Nigerian cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky.

Recall that Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos after he was charged for abusing the naira by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Naija News earlier reported that Bobrisky had appealed his six-month conviction for financial misconduct.

In the appeal said to have been submitted by his attorney, Deji Adeyanju, Bobrisky requested the appellate court to overturn the six-month jail term issued to him.

However, speaking with Punch on Monday, Adeyanju stated that he is not Bobrisky’s attorney and has not filed an appeal on his behalf.

He said, “I didn’t file any appeal on Bobrisky’s behalf. I am not representing Bobrisky on any matter.”

NCoS Official Discloses Bobrisky’s Present Location

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has refuted claims that popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, was transferred from the Ikoyi custodial centre to its other facility in Kirikiri, Lagos State.

Earlier reports indicated that he was later transferred to Kirikiri prison.

However, an NCoS official told Punch on Thursday that the convict was still held in the Ikoyi prison.

The official, who pleaded anonymity as he was not permitted to speak on the matter, said Bobrisky did not commit a capital offence, hence he couldn’t be transfered to a maximum prison where inmates serving life and death sentences were mostly kept.
