NAF Executes Major Strikes Against Oil Refiners In Rivers & Terrorists In Niger

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the successful destruction of multiple illegal oil refining sites in Rivers State and the elimination of numerous terrorists in Niger State following coordinated air strikes. This was revealed in a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, AVM Edward Gabkwet, on Sunday in Abuja.Gabkwet stated that as the tactics of oil thieves and economic saboteurs have evolved, the NAF and other security agencies have also enhanced their strategies to stay ahead. He highlighted that oil thieves have been increasingly sophisticated in hiding their operations, often using concealed overhead tanks to store stolen crude oil and high-speed boats to transport their illicit products."In Willcourt, a riverine settlement within the creeks of the Niger Delta Region, the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe identified and destroyed three Illegal Refining Sites (IRS)," Gabkwet said. "These sites contained seven overhead tanks hidden under thick mangrove vegetation. Additionally, about five kilometers downstream, four boats carrying suspected illegally refined products were sighted and destroyed."Gabkwet detailed an encounter where NAF personnel pursued and intercepted a speed boat with five suspected oil thieves, who were subsequently arrested by ground troops after attempting to evade the aircraft. In another operation in the North West Region, NAF received a tip-off about terrorists hiding in Dandunu after rustling cattle from communities around the Kuchi-Kapana axis in Munya Local Government Area of Niger. NAF deployed air assets to scan the area, leading to the interception of the terrorists on nine motorcycles escorting the stolen cattle. The air strikes resulted in the elimination of most of the motorcycle-riding terrorists."The feedback from locals has been positive, with many able to recover their rustled cattle and resume their livelihoods," Gabkwet added. These operations underscore the NAF's commitment to utilizing modern technology and hardware to detect and deter the activities of oil thieves and terrorists, ensuring the safety and stability of affected regions.
