Fenerbahce manager, José Mourinho, has revealed that he turned down offers to manage the England national team twice.

The 61-year-old Portuguese tactician, who has won 26 major trophies, explained that international management does not suit his current ambitions.

Speaking to HT Spot, Mourinho said, “I had national team opportunities in the past, including from England twice, but I didn’t accept it.

“Managing a national team wouldn’t make me happy—one or two matches a month, travelling to watch players, waiting for tournaments. I have too much energy for that right now.”

Mourinho, who joined Fenerbahce in June, said his commitment is to club football.

He is focused on ending the club’s Turkish Super Lig title drought, with their last league triumph coming in 2013/14.

Fenerbahce’s European hopes have shifted to the Europa League following a Champions League qualification loss to Lille.

Their campaign begins on September 26 against Union Saint-Gilloise, while a crucial Istanbul derby against Galatasaray looms just 10 days away.
