An afrobeats singer, Mayowa Adewale, professionally known as Mayorkun, has threatened to slam a social media influencer, Precious Kingsley, aka Nicki Dabarbie, with a lawsuit of N1bn if she does not apologise for alleging that the former and his colleague, Abbey Elias, aka Skiibii, attempted to use her for an occult ritual.
In the early hours of Friday, April 19, 2024, Dabarbie had accused Mayorkun and Skibii of allegedly plotting to use her for ‘money ritual’.
In a series of posts on her Instagram page, she shared videos showing herself, Skibii and some others in the latter’s house, and another one of her wounds being stitched up at a hospital. She said, “His name is Skibii and that is how they all do in their house. They use people’s blood to buy cars. Don’t worry; it will not work for me.”
This was even as a voice which sounded like Skibii’s said, “What kind of highness is this. Let me take you home.”
However, in a letter written by his lawyers, Monarchs and Stroud, Mayorkun stated that Dabarbie made false accusations against him. The letter read in part, “We hereby demand that you immediately adhere to the following conjunctively:
“That you take down the offensive publication on all your social media accounts within 24 hours of receipt of this letter.
“That you will accompany the retraction of the offensive publication with a video and written apology to our client through the same platforms employed to tarnish his image, including the publication of the written apology in two national newspapers.
“That you will henceforth desist from engaging in any written and/or verbal acts which are defamatory, slanderous, and/or libelous towards our client.
“That you pay our client a sum of not less than N1bn as damages for all the emotional trauma, loss of endorsements, and cost of engaging legal counsel.”
Meanwhile, in an earlier interview with Saturday Beats, Mayorkun’s manager had dismissed the allegations as baseless. He said, “It is all rubbish. Our legal team will address this matter promptly.”
On his part, Skibii took to his Instagram page to debunk the influencer’s claim, adding that the incident had been reported to the police. He wrote, “I want to clarify that the narrative being circulated by people and various blogs is completely false, and the truth will come to light on all fronts. I have reported the incident to the Nigerian Police Force, because there’s nothing to hide, and I trust that they will conduct a thorough investigation. I will let the law take its course this time.”
