A concerned resident of Enugu State, Mr Nnamdi Odo has called on the governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah to urgently intervene in the case of a female nurse who was brutalised by masquerades.

The development has since attracted outrage.
In an open letter to Governor Mbah, titled: “Urgent Intervention Needed to Address Brutality in Nsukka Local Government Area”, Odo said Miss Blessing’s case was one out of many.
He told the governor, “I am writing to bring to your attention a matter of utmost urgency that requires your immediate intervention. It concerns the recent incident of brutality inflicted upon a nurse in Nsukka Local Government Area by a masquerade.
“The appalling act of violence against the innocent nurse is not only a grave violation of human rights but also a clear indication of the breakdown of law and order in our community.
“Such barbaric acts have no place in a civilised society and must be vehemently condemned and addressed with swift and decisive action.
“As the Governor of Enugu State, it is incumbent upon you to ensure the safety and security of all citizens within the state, regardless of their profession or background.
“The brutal attack on the nurse highlights the urgent need for increased vigilance and measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
“Furthermore, this incident underscores deeper issues within our society that must be addressed comprehensively.
“The prevalence of violence, particularly in the name of tradition or culture, reflects a failure of leadership and governance at various levels. It is imperative that we work together to foster a culture of tolerance, respect, and peaceful coexistence.
“Therefore, I urge you, Your Excellency, to take immediate and decisive action to investigate this incident thoroughly and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice swiftly.
“Additionally, I implore you to implement measures to prevent similar occurrences and to promote dialogue and understanding among all stakeholders.
“Your intervention in this matter is crucial not only for the well-being of the affected individuals but also for the preservation of peace and harmony in our beloved state.
“I trust in your commitment to upholding justice and protecting the rights of all citizens, and I eagerly await your prompt response and action on this pressing issue.”
