City breathing down Arsenal's neck...

Another day of breathtaking Premier League football has come to a close.

What a way to end it too, well, unless you support Wolves or Arsenal. Manchester City were at their brilliant best today. Wolves could barely lay a glove on them.

Erling Haaland returned to the starting 11 with a bang, netting four goals in a league game for the first time. He was unstoppable today.

Julian Alvarez put the icing on the cake with a goal on his 100th appearance for City, while Hwang Hee-Chan netted Wolves' only shot on target.

The main takeaway from that game is that City will just keep motoring on. As they always do, they answered every question thrown at them.

This title race will rumble on to the very end, and none of us will be able to take our eyes off it. But, who will get their hands on the prize at the end? City or Arsenal?

Unfortunately, we still have to wait a couple more weeks until we find out. So, with that, I'm going to get out of your hair.

Thank you for joining me this evening, as ever, I thoroughly enjoyed providing you with Mail Sport's updates on the match.

I'll see you all very soon. Tara!

All the stats: Haaland's hat-trick

There are so many statistics about Erling Haaland's hat-trick I just thought one post summarising them was enough.

He was truly sensational today, and going be these stats, it certainly wasn't for the first time, and wont be for the last.

Haaland’s hat-trick was the 41st scored by a Manchester City player in the Premier League, with only Liverpool netting more in the competition’s history with 42. Haaland became the third player to score multiple first-half hat-tricks in Premier League history, along with Andrew Cole and Michael Owen, who have two each.He scored a hat-trick in this exact fixture last season, which means he becomes the third player to score a home treble against the same opponent in consecutive Premier League campaigns after Robbie Fowler vs Arsenal in 1994-95 and 1995-96, and Alan Shearer vs West Ham 1994-95 and 1995-96.

Not a bad day at the office for the City striker...

Gary O'Neil: 'We damaged ourselves mostly'

Gary O'Neil, Wolves boss, speaking to Sky Sports:

I thought we damaged ourselves mostly. I think the first goal is obviously not our doing or error. The second goal, we lose the ball really cheaply. I think the last goal it's unbelievable that we lost the ball when we had it at the back under no pressure.
If you make errors against these they'll punish you. We made too many errors and Manchester City were very clinical. We fell short today, I'm disappointed with how we fell short. We made some key errors which you can't make.
I thought the first one was not a penalty. At 1-0, we had a good, long spell on the ball. If they hadn't been given that start it may have been different. Then we gave them a soft second goal. There were loads of little things that meant we weren't able to compete against the best team in Europe too much.
The second one was probably a penalty but once it wasn't given I was surprised it was overturned. I'm happy with the decision but not happy with how it was given. Is it clear and obvious? I didn't think it was, but obviously, I may be biased. I am the Wolves manager.

PLAYER RATINGS: Erling Haaland was eye-catching

Who do you reckon got the highest rating? I'm sure you can all figure it out.

Mail Sport's Jack Gaughan was at the Etihad today to witness Erling Haaland's imperious display against Wolves.

Man City dominated, so there are a lot of high ratings in there, but other than Haaland, who else shone?

To find out, click below:

Erling Haaland: 'Not-too-bad manager pushes me'

Erling Haaland, Manchester City goalscorer, speaking to Sky Sports:

Not bad, 25 goals this season, Thanks for that. We keep going. I’ve got a not-too-bad manager who pushes me and look at the players around me. Without them it would not be possible. Look ahead, look to next one - four finals left for season. We’re going to go for it and focus on Fulham.
That’s a beautiful goal (his second). My father is going to be happy with that one. A nice celebration, I enjoyed that one. I’m scoring more headers, I try to develop and keep going.

Pep Guardiola: 'It looked comfortable but it was not'

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager, speaking to Sky Sports:

It looked comfortable but it was not. In the end, we created more chances but in the transition, we were not precise in the last pass. But Erling (Haaland) is back to business. Penalties are a guarantee but the second and fourth (goals) were unbelievable.
They are a really, really good team but we made calls at the right moment, especially with the fourth because at 3-1, anything can happen. Goal difference is not possible, we cannot draw. The way Arsenal have been playing has been so good and consistent. It's three games, hopefully, we win the first and the second and arrive to the third with our destiny in our own hands.

On Haaland's reaction to being substituted:

He's a little bit frustrated, but I understand. He was frustrated with the referee. With the long balls sometimes they push him and he is pulled. Yes, it is like that.

City go 20 unbeaten in PL

It feels like this unbeaten run will just keep rumbling on.

Manchester City are now on a run of 20 league games without losing - they have won 16 games during that run.

Can anybody defy the odds and hand them a loss? It doesn't look like it.

SOFASCORE STATS: Man City 5-1 Wolves

These statistics are the definition of dominance.

Manchester City had 12 shots on target. Wolves really have to thank their keeper Jose Sa for keeping the score down.

The fact Wolves even got a goal in the end is surprising, they only had two attempts.

If Manchester City continue to play like they did today, they will end the campaign with a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Haaland hits four for first time

I don't know why, but this statistic really surprises me.

We know Erling Haaland has tons of hat-tricks, that was his sixth in the Premier League for Manchester City.

However, it's the first time he has scored four goals in a Premier League match.

His fourth goal came in the 54th minute today, the second earliest four-goal haul by a player in the competition’s history, after Gabriel Jesus for City in April 2022.

I'm sure it won't be the last time we see him nestle four into the net.

FULL-TIME: Man City 5-1 Wolves

Wolves' punishment has been ended by Craig Pawson.

What a performance from Manchester City, specifically Erling Haaland, they didn't have to get out of second gear in that second half.

The result was written in the stars at half-time, but when Hwang Hee-Chan pulled one back for the visitors it made the match a little tasty.

However, it took a minute for that taste to be smacked out the mouth as Haaland netted his fourth of the match.

Julian Alvarez then continued where Haaland left off when he replaced him, and City are now just the one point behind Arsenal.

That performance is ominous for the Gunners. It was simply too easy for City.

SUBSTITUTION: Man City 5-1 Wolves

Time for another substitution, this time from Wolves.

Their goalscorer Hwang Hee-Chan makes way for Tawanda Chirewa.

Just as the action resumes City nearly have a sixth, but Jeremy Doku fires over the bar.

GOAL!!! Man City 5-1 Wolves (Alvarez 85')

There's another goal, but this time it's not Erling Haaland, but his replacement.

On his 100th appearance for the club, Julian Alvarez makes it five with a lovely finish across Jose Sa.

He's only been on the pitch a matter of minutes!

SUBSTITUTIONS: Man City 4-1 Wolves

Erling Haaland's afternoon comes to an end, and what a match he has had.

He makes way to a standing ovation as Julian Alvarez comes on to replace him up top.

Moments earlier, Manchester City also made a triple change. Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, and Matheus Nunes all came on.

Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden all made way.

GOOD CHANCE! Man City 4-1 Wolves

Wolves are not lying down without a fight it seems.

I may have misjudged this game as the visitors come very close to scoring another.

The ball is whipped into the back post, but it's completely missed by Pablo Sarabia...

It should be 4-2, but that's the kind of day Wolves have had I guess.

SUBSTITUTION: Man City 4-1 Wolves

Guess what, it's time for another substitution.

It comes from the Wolves bench again as Pablo Sarabia replaces Matheus Cunha.

It looks like Manchester City are going to make some too.

SUBSTITUTION: Man City 4-1 Wolves

Bueno is coming off, Bueno is coming on...

Yes, you read that right. Wolves decide to make another change as Hugo comes off for Santiago.

No, they are not related.

SUBSTITUTION: Man City 4-1 Wolves

Pep Guardiola has decided to turn to his bench.

Nathan Ake's evening is over, he comes off to a standing ovation as John Stones replaces him.

I feel that may be the first change of many.

YELLOW CARD: Man City 4-1 Wolves (Gomes)

Another Wolves player goes into the book, Joao Gomes.

Because of the space Wolves are leaving, they are being forced into silly challenges.

I feel like the yellow cards will keep coming.

YELLOW CARD: Man City 4-1 Wolves (Traore)

Wolves are all over the place.

There is so much space for Kevin de Bruyne to run into, and he duly obliges.

As he races through the only thing in Boubacar Traore's mind is to take him out, and he does.

He gets booked for the foul.

GOOD SAVE! Man City 4-1 Wolves

Erling Haaland is having a field day!

Wolves are leaving so much space for the Norweigan striker to move into.

He drops off the back of Max Kilman, takes the ball in his stride, and forces Jose Sa into a very strong save.

I think he is going to score another at some point.

GOAL!!! Man City 4-1 Wolves (Haaland 54')

Simply incredible...

Wolves's small does of hope is extremely short-lived, and it's a stupidly good goal from Erling Haalan.

Wolves decide it's a good idea to go straight for another, but Phil Foden simply caresses a lovely ball over the top for Haaland, who cuts in and nestles the ball into the far corner.

Too easy, and their three-goal cushion is restored instantly.

GOAL!!! Man City 3-1 Wolves (Hwang 53')

Surely not?

I have to say, that is shocking goalkeeping from Ederson.

Jeanricner Bellegarde has already made a difference, he whips in a cross that somehow Ederson doesn't claim, and Hwang Hee-Chan is there to smash the ball home.

I'm sure it's just a consolation goal, but you never know.

GOOD SAVE! Man City 3-0 Wolves

Man City starting the half as they ended the last.

Jose Sa is forced into a save low to his right at full stretch to deny Phil Foden from adding a fourth.

Foden did well to get the shot away, the pass from Rodri went behind him, but he managed to get his leg back there.

It looked like the ball was rolling in slow motion and Sa did well to scamper across in the end.

SECOND HALF: Man City 3-0 Wolves

We are back underway at the Etihad.

Wolves have made a change at the break, I'm not surprised, and I'm sure you all aren't either.

Jeanricner Bellegarde is the player to have entered the fray - Mario Lemina makes way.

WATCH: Three of the best from Haaland

Another game, another Erling Haaland hat-trick.

He seems to score a lot of them doesn't he, well he couldn't have asked for an easier way to get one today.

Two penalties and a brilliant header. Not a stunning treble, but he won't care about that.

To be fair to him, he would have scored his third anyway if it wasn't for Nelson Semedo taking him out for the second penalty.

Watch and enjoy, City fans...

Haaland the hat-trick hero

Erling Haaland scores goals for fun.

When he gets one, he usually gets a few, and that is certainly the case today.

It may not have been the best hat-trick ever seen, but it was an important one for Manchester City.

With that first-half treble, Haaland now has 21 hat-tricks to his name, he has barely got going in his career.

He's simply a goal machine.

HALF-TIME: Man City 3-0 Wolves

Well, that was a walk in the park, wasn't it?

Manchester City are three to the good at the break thanks to a hat-trick from Erling Haaland. I wonder how many that is now?

In truth, Wolves haven't really given the hosts a game, City have been able to do as they please.

However, the visitors may feel harshly done by the first penalty, it was very soft. However, from then on, Haaland and co have been rampant.

It could be more, and they still have another 45 minutes to endure.

GOAL!!! Man City 3-0 Wolves (Haaland 45+3')

He gets his hat-trick!

Jose Sa guesses the right way this time as Erling Haaland goes the same way, but the power is too much for him.

That should be that now. This could be a rout!

GOAL!!! Man City 2-0 Wolves (Haaland 35')

What a goal that is!

Wolves are the masters of their own downfall. Rodri wins the ball high up the pitch after two Wolves players collide.

He combines with Kevin de Buryne before floating a ball to the back post for Erling Haaland to head home.

I can't get over how high Haaland just leaped. Any higher and he would have jumped out of the stadium.

Incredibly impressive. Arsenal fans, I think this one may be over.

GOOD SAVE! Man City 1-0 Wolves

That's a big save from Jose Sa.

The ball comes the way of Erling Haaland and you just expect him to score with his head, but Sa is there to deny him from close range.

It's one-way traffic at the moment, Wolves can't get out.

GOAL!!! Man City 1-0 Wolves (Haaland 12')

And he doesn't miss this time either!

It was never in doubt, Erling Haaland sends Jose Sa the wrong way and calmly slots the ball into the bottom left-hand corner.

He runs over to the camera and gives a double thumbs up.

It's a long way back for Wolves now, and I bet Arsenal fans will be feeling it's already over.

KICK-OFF: Man City 0-0 Wolves

Wolves are in their away kit, very interesting, I'm pretty sure the home kits don't clash.

Anyway, that's irrelevant.

Blue Moon is belted out by the Manchester City faithful as the teams get into their shapes. I say belted out, but more like mumbled.

Right, the away side get us underway!

Pep Guardiola: 'We have to do our job'

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager, speaking to Sky Sports:

We know from in the past with Liverpool and we know it because you see the tendency to how strong Arsenal in every game is. We have to do our job. We have been here in the past and we know perfectly what we have to do.
At the end (of the day), it's human beings play at 5.30 a football game and see how we perform. How you have done in the past does not give you three points today. We have to do it again and the players know it.

All smiles in the warm-up

Upon first viewing, I thought Wolves just decided to take a team photo following the warm-up.

However, it's actually a very lovely picture with the mascot, a lovely gesture from the players.

Going off the pre-game preparations, the visitors are looking in high spirits.

They've got nothing to lose. City do though...

Atmosphere building at the Etihad

This is when you start to get excited as a fan.

When you approach the ground and feel the buzz of your fellow supporters for such a big game. It's such a rush.

I am feeling like that right now and I am sitting in an office in London, which tells you everything about what this title race is doing to me.

I wonder what kind of atmosphere the Etihad will bring us today?

Quick recovery for Ederson

I think many of us are surprised to see Ederson starting today.

The thought of him playing today hadn't even crossed my mind due to the severity of his injury at Nottingham Forest last week.

Six days ago he left the City Ground in a sling, but I guess Manchester City's magic sponge must have done the trick.

It's a huge boost for them to have him fit.

Wolves Team News - ONE change

Just the one change for Wolves.

Hugo Bueno comes into the side replacing Matt Doherty at the back, while Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Santiago Bueno both make the bench.

Can this team cause City any problems?

Manchester City Team news - Foden RETURNS

Now that is a very strong team.

Phil Foden and Erling Haaland both return to the starting 11 as Pep Guardiola makes three changes.

Mateo Kovacic also comes into the fold while Ederson somehow is fit to start.

Last week the Brazilian left Nottingham in a sling, what a miraculous recovery...

Wolves arrive at the Etihad

Game faces on!

Wolves have arrived at the Eithad to do battle with the Champions, and they look focused.

One thing I will say though, Mario Lemina's styling of that hat is very interesting. Is that trendy these days?

It doesn't really matter though does it, he will just be dreaming of netting a 30-yard screamer to silence the crowd later.

Will he be starting though? We will find out very soon...

City seeking to extend unbeaten run

I think it's gone under the radar, but Manchester City are on a crazy unbeaten run at the moment.

In the Premier League, they are on an unbeaten streak of 19 games. If they win today, it would be the fourth time they have managed 20 league games unbeaten under Pep Guardiola.

They just become a machine when they get going, it's hard to see anybody stopping them at the moment.

Jamie Carragher: 'No nerves with City'

Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool defender, on Sky Sports:

You aren't going to get nerves with (Manchester) City, the results tell you that, not just this season, but in seasons gone by.
If you go back to the home game, they (Wolves) played like the away team. I don't see it being any different, get numbers behind the ball. It's not rocket science, it's just very difficult to do.

Manchester City's turn...

How will you respond, Manchester City?

This season's title race is going to be gripping until the very last minute, it still feels like there is another twist in there somewhere.

Arsenal did the business earlier to go four points clear with a 3-0 win over Bournemouth, and now City have the chance to move back within a point of the leaders with the first of their two games in hand.

Wolves are the unlucky team that has to face Pep Guardiola's side amidst a run-in. It's never fun to face City this time of the season.

It may be a tough proposition, but Wolves are a team that have turned up at the Etihad before. I'm sure Arsenal fans would love them to do so again.

It's going to be intense at the Etihad, so brace yourselves. Anyway, I'm ready, are you?

Let's get cracking!
