Lagos State Taskforce Cracks Down On Drug Peddling With Night Raids (Photos)

In a significant crackdown on illegal drug activities, the Lagos State Taskforce has conducted a series of night raids on notorious black spots across the city. The operations targeted areas infamous for drug peddling and criminal activities, such as Aminkanle Market, NerdC Street near the African Shrine in Agidigbi, and various locations in Ikeja.The raids resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs, including Colorado, hemp, codeine, and other harmful substances. Taskforce Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele led the operations, which began at dusk when illegal traders and drug peddlers often establish makeshift shops and barricades. These activities have been a source of significant traffic disruptions and environmental nuisances, violating the state’s laws through indiscriminate drug use and improper waste disposal.CSP Akerele emphasized that the raids are part of an ongoing effort to address public concerns about drug peddling, hooliganism, and street trading, which contribute to criminality in these areas. “The activities of these suspected criminals at Aminkanle, Agidigbi, and NerdC Street, especially at night, endanger public safety and contribute to severe traffic congestion. It is unfair to the residents, and we are committed to eradicating these problems,” Akerele stated.Reaffirming the Lagos State Government’s commitment, Akerele assured that these efforts align with the THEMES PLUS agenda to preserve the environment and ensure the state’s security. He urged all criminally minded individuals to relocate or face legal consequences, promising thorough investigations into all areas known for high-level criminal activities.The Taskforce has also appealed to residents to report black spots, illegal drug trading, or any other environmental infractions through the agency’s social media platforms or by visiting its headquarters at Bolade.During the raids, 124 suspects were arrested.
