Bucks Fizz star Cheryl Baker fears Olly Alexander has little chance of Eurovision victory as she admits the song isn't 'strong enough for Eurovision'

Eurovision legend Cheryl Baker has expressed her fears for Olly Alexander's Eurovision performance on Saturday.

The Bucks Fizz star, who won the song contest back in 1981, confessed she thinks Olly is in with little chance of bringing home the victory, even though she desperately wants him to. 

The Years and Years singer, 33, who's representing Great Britain with his catchy tune Dizzy, divided fans with his performance during the semi final on Tuesday evening. 

While half seemed to love the song and raved about the expressive staging, others noticed Olly's vocals were slightly off and shaky, as one even hoped he was saving his vocals ahead of Saturday's final.

And it seems Cheryl also has reservations about the raunchy number as she told The Mirror that the singer should consider making some important changes to the track if he wants to be in with a chance of winning. 

Speaking to the publication she said:  'I like the song, but it doesn't go anywhere. It's chart worthy but I don't think it's strong enough for Eurovision. You've got three minutes or less to make your mark. 

'In that three minutes, you need to build and make it go. He has changed it vocally with some high notes but I just don't think the song is quite there for it, it just stays on the same level.' 

Cheryl suggested Olly adds a few key changes into the track as she questioned whether with just over 48 hours to go the star could logistically make the changes. 

However, the star also wished Olly all the best as she added: 'It would be amazing if he brings the Eurovision trophy back to the UK. Olly has got such an incredible voice and I hope he wins - let's just hope as normal I've got in totally wrong when it comes to the predictions.' 

According to odds from betting company BetMGM, Olly is a outsider to win, with unpromising odds of 150/1.

The UK last took the victorious title back in 1997 when Katrina and the Waves came in number one with the track Love Shine a Light. 

It was the fifth time the UK had come in first place after Bucks Fizz previously won in 1981 with the hit Making Up Your Mind. 

Olly gave it his all as he took to the stage in Malmo Sweden on Tuesday evening as he was joined by group of hunky shirtless backup dancers as they performed the explosive number. 

With the help of some clever camera work, Olly and his dancers appeared to be spinning around and walking on the ceiling in the jam-packed performance. 

Olly's boxing themed routine saw him don a distressed vest and red trousers which was worn with a colour coordination jock strap over the top.

The raunchy number saw Olly sensually running his hands over the dancer's shirtless bodies before they entered into a dance sequence and the singer thrusted to the beat. 

However the star also suffered a wardrobe malfunction during the performance after his mic pack fell off in the second chorus and was left dangling behind him. 

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Olly struggled to hide his emotions as he admitted he was 'thrown off' by the slight mishap and was left 'worried and stressed'. 

He told fans: 'Eurovision update. Semi Final one was last night, I performed, it was good. I had a slight wardrobe malfunction, well my mic pack fell out halfway through the performance so I had to catch it.

'It kind of threw me off. I was worried. There were elements of the routine I couldn't really do as well as I would have liked and I was stressed that the pack would just fall off entirely and my in-ears would fall out.'

Taking some deep breaths he continued: 'But it doesn't matter. That is the thrill of live music, television anything can happen.

'But the show was amazing so many amazing contestants and everyone did so well. It was heartbreaking that anyone had to go home.'

Earlier in the day Olly also spoke to Scott Mills on his Radio 2 show as he admitted: 'I did have a slight wardrobe malfunction when my mic pack fell off in the second chorus so I was a bit confused and stressed by that'.

Supporting the UK act Scott, who is commentating at the song contest alongside Rylan Clark, added: 'But good thing it happened now' as Olly replied: 'Oh exactly'. 

Speaking about the performance as a whole Olly said: 'It was very good to perform in the semi-final because there's less pressure so I'm there with all the other contestants but I'm already qualified for the final, so I get to run the whole show as if it was the real thing but I don’t have to worry about the voting, so that was good.' 

Directed by Theo Adams, Olly admitted that when the concept for the staging was first brought to him it blew his mind and is the most rehearsed performance he has ever executed. 

'When he [Theo] first started to tell me what the performance was going to be, because obviously there’s a lot of trickery with the cameras and on the set things are made to look like you don’t know if their upside down or the right way up, it really blew my mind and I was very confused, and sometimes I’m still confused by the performance and what’s going on!

'It’s the most rehearsed thing I’ve ever done the precision is quite amazing'.
