Cardi B shut down the green carpet of the 2024 Met Gala Monday evening (May 6) with her massive black ball gown.

Several tuxedo-clad men fluffed out Cardi’s larger-than-life gown, completely covering the carpet at the bottom of the infamous steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. It’s a fitting entrance considering the 31-year-old rapper was completely covered in black umbrellas earlier in the evening to conceal her dramatic look before the grand reveal. Meanwhile, glimmers of green added a nice pop of color to her elegant ensemble, from her diamond and emerald jewelry to her green bottom eyeliner to her classic razor-sharp nails.

This year’s Met Gala is celebrating the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” with the dress code being “The Garden of Time.” Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya and Chris Hemsworth are this year’s co-hosts.

“I feel like the Met Gala is almost like going to the Grammys,” Cardi told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview. “It’s very nerve-racking, and even though we make it look so easy, we really be so nervous.”

Cardi’s last solo single “Enough (Miami)” debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it her 12th top 10 hit on the all-genre songs chart. She recently collaborated with Shakira, who also attended the Met Gala, on “Puntería.” The collaborators were filmed catching up on the Met red carpet, grabbing each other’s hands and admiring their voluminous ensembles, with Shakira contrasting in red to Cardi’s black dress.
