Point of Sale (PoS) operators in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, faced a harrowing ordeal on Sunday as armed men launched a series of attacks in an attempt to rob them of their cash. The first incident occurred along Uzuakoli Road, where eyewitnesses reported that the robbers arrived in a tricycle, firing shots into the air to disperse bystanders before demanding money from the PoS operators. One operator was reportedly shot after hesitating to hand over his cash. The assailants quickly fled the scene, leaving the area in panic.Shortly after, the armed men struck again on the opposite side of town, targeting another PoS dealer near the Azikiwe-Ikot Ekpene Road and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) axis. The sound of gunfire during the second attack drew the attention of officers from the Abia State Police Command, who responded swiftly, causing the robbers to flee. While it remains unclear whether the robbers succeeded in stealing any money, reports from ABN TV Umuahia confirmed that two PoS operators were injured in the attacks and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Umuahia.The spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incidents on Sunday evening, stating, "Yes, there was such an incident, but the police did the needful, and an investigation is ongoing."
