Operatives of the Inspector General of Police-Special Investigation Unit have arrested four suspects in connection with alleged criminal conspiracy, forgery of official documents, job racketeering, impersonation, and obtaining money under false pretences.
A statement signed yesterday by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the development followed a report from the office of the Special Assistant to the President accusing the suspects of forging documents âresembling one emanating from the office of the National Chairman, All Progressive Congress and another document with semblance to one from the State House Abujaâ.
He identified those arrested as: Khuzaifa Tafida âZakari Abdullahi, Abdullahi Baba, and Adeyemo Morufu. According to Adejobi, the suspects âbelong(ed) to a syndicate involved in forging classified documents emanating from Government Agencies/ Organizations in the bid to deceive unsuspecting victims and extort money (sic) from them under the guise of securing a job for them at the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil and other agencies of the Federal Government.
âThe duo then proceeded to present the documents to the office of the Inspector-General of Police as recommendations in favour of 13 persons for the Nigeria Police 2022 Special Recruitment.
âUpon receipt of these documents with suspicion, followed by a petition from the office of the Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a discreet investigation was conducted, which led to the apprehension of Khuzaifa Tafida and Zakari Abdullahi.
Further investigation would then result in the arrest of the other suspects involved. âUpon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their roles in the crime.
They admitted to forging documents from several government offices to defraud unsuspecting victims, promising them enlistment and jobs at various Government Agencies.
âSome forged classified documents, stamps, the sum of One Million, Seven Hundred Thousand (N1,700,000) and other incriminating items, were recovered from them.

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has approved a monthly allowance of N200,000 for the maintenance of secondary schools across the state.
This decision was made to address the immediate maintenance needs of the schools, allowing principals to repair minor damages to infrastructure without waiting for lengthy approval processes.
The governor also directed the state Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Dadi Adare, to review the allowances of traditional rulers in the state and make necessary adjustments to reflect the current economic situation.
This development came after the former Deputy Governor, Chiso Abdullahi, appealed to the governor to provide funds for school maintenance. Abdullahi emphasised the funds would enable schools to hire workers to carry out necessary repairs.
The Chief Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, confirmed that the governor approved the N200, 000 monthly allowance for each secondary school, which will commence in January 2025 and cover all 23 local government areas.

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised serious allegations against the stateâs newly inaugurated governor, Monday Okpebholo.
According to Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, the caretaker committee chairman of the PDP in Edo, the current administration has allegedly squandered over N30 billion left in the stateâs treasury by the previous administration led by Godwin Obaseki.
During a press conference themed âState of the Nation Addressâ, Aziegbemi accused Governor Okpebholo of misappropriating the funds to reward political âgodfathersâ who contributed to his victory in the September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election.
The PDP claims that this financial recklessness occurred just two weeks after the governor assumed office.
The PDP caretaker committee chairman, who accused the APC-led government of not paying the stateâs civil and public workers the November monthly salary, noted that the development was contrary to the record set by the former PDP-led government under the Governor Godwin Obaseki where the stateâs workers received monthly salary on or before 26th of every month.
He also alleged that the APC-led government in the state had within two weeks in office procured over N5 billion worth of vehicles without a proper procurement process.
Aziegbemi, who further alleged that Governor Monday Okpebholoâs government was desperately looking for ways to pass entries for over N2 billion as inauguration costs, opined that the Edo State Procurement Act was at risk.
According to him, âfor 8 years the PDP-led administration paid salaries on or before the 25th of every month, and as of today, they have not been able to pay November salaries even though the Obaseki-led PDP administration left over N30bn in the state coffers.
âWhat have they done with that money? They have filtered the money away and shared it with their godfathers for the roles they played in circumventing the will of the people
âWe are aware that as we speak, nobody in the state has received any credit alert for the payment of November 2024 salary. The government of Godwin Obaseki paid salary 26th of every month
âGovernor Okpebholo has procured over N5bn worth of vehicles without proper procurement process which has created a crisis to the extent that the Permanent Secretary Governorâs office is threatening civil servants in Central administration for refusing to accept vehicles due to improper documentation, while desperately looking for ways to pass entries for over N2bn of inauguration costs.â
Responding to the allegations, the Edo State Government said Governor Monday Okpebholo would expose PDPâs eight-year rot in the state.
A statement by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, noted that no amount of blackmail would stop the Okpebholo-led administration from recovering the commonwealth of the people from a few dubious men.
Itua posited that the 14-day government of Monday Okpebholo was in a hurry to develop Edo State and had remained undaunted in living up to the peopleâs expectations.

A Nigerian man recently sparked conversations on Twitter by commenting on the increasing trend of Nigerians relocating to Canada, even in the face of low employment opportunities in the country. His tweet touched on the challenges many immigrants face, such as underemployment and the difficulty of finding jobs in their fields of expertise despite holding advanced degrees and professional certifications.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday, November 25, announced that Nigeria's unemployment rate decreased to 4.3% in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, marking a decline from 5.3% in the previous quarter (Q1 2024). In October, Statistics Canada reported that the unemployment in the country was at 6.5 per cent, while job growth was little changed from the previous month.
Comparing the unemployment rate in both countries with Canada getting the lower data, the Twitter user suggested that Nigerians relocating to Canada are doing so just to experience the cold weather, particularly the 'snow.â

All of Man United's injury problems come at centre-back currently, and it is unlikely any of them will return for this one, so Noussair Mazraoui and Jonny Evans may be forced to play in a back three either side of Matthijs de Ligt again.
Lisandro Martinez's hip issue is not as serious as first feared, so he could return for the visit of Everton at the weekend, but Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Victor Lindelof are slightly further away from a comeback.
Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw both returned to the squad for the first time this season after lengthy setbacks at the weekend, with the latter coming off the bench late on, and both could get minutes here.
Neither Kobbie Mainoo nor Manuel Ugarte were deemed fit enough to start against Ipswich, and will likely be kept in reserve again here, with the Everton game at the weekend taking higher priority.
Manchester United possible starting lineup:
Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Evans; Amad, Casemiro, Eriksen, Shaw; Antony, Hojlund, Fernandes

Bodo/Glimt will be without quintet Omar Elabdelloaui, Samuel Burakovsky, Daniel Bassi, Gaute Vetti and Syver Skeide for their first ever encounter with Man United.
It could be a busy evening again for goalkeeper Nikita Haikin, whose 24 saves in the opening four league phase games of the Europa League is higher than any other stopper.
Patrick Berg has tried his best to lessen the flow of chances flying at Haikin's goal, with his 22 tackles and 12 interceptions both ranking as the highest of any player in the competition so far, and his presence could be vital again in the Bodo/Glimt midfield.
Bodo/Glimt possible starting lineup:
Haikin; Sjovold, Nielsen, Bjortuft, Bjorkan; Evjen, Berg, Saltnes; Zinckernagel, Hogh, Hauge
Prediction: Manchester United 3-0 Bodo/Glimt

A Texas social media influencer, who runs an online business has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison following her conviction in a muĹder-for-hire plot.
Ashley Grayson, 35, ran a popular internet business from her home in Dallas, touting herself as a bestseller, an eight-figure business coach, course creator, and philanthropist, according to the US Attorneyâs Office for the Western District of Tennessee.
In 2022, she contacted a friend in Memphis and asked her to fly to Dallas to discuss a âbusiness opportunityâ for the pal and her husband to k!ll three people for $20,000 per hit, Fox 4 News reported.
The three included Graysonâs ex, as well as a bitter rival who ran a similar online business in Mississippi.
She also asked them to k!ll a Texas woman who made negative social media posts about her online, prosecutors said.
âThis was a 21st-century crime where online feuds and senseless rivalries bled into the real world,â acting US Attorney Reagan Fondren said.
âThe defendant tried to hire someone to murder a woman over things that happened exclusively on the internet.â
The Memphis couple pretended to agree to the deal but instead gave police a video of Grayson saying she would pay them an extra $5,000 to carry out the muĹder of the Mississippi woman within the week.
The couple later sent Grayson a video of police lights from an unrelated incident, claiming they tried to carry out the muĹder but got caught. They later met with Grayson and were given $10,000 for their âattempt,â prosecutors said.
Grayson was found guilty of muĹder-for-hire and given the maximum sentence of 120 months in prison. She will not be eligible for parole because it was a federal case.
Her husband was earlier acquitted of any involvement.
