Osun Community Protests Alleged Relocation Of Airport To Gov Adelekeâs Hometown
November 27, 2024
Some angry residents of Ido community in Osun State, have protested against the plan by the state government to relocate the state airport project from Ido to Ede.
The community also described the move as unjust and discriminatory.
They argued that the relocation undermines historical and developmental significance of the airport project, which has been situated in Ido-Osun since 1936.
The residents also accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of breaching his oath of office by favouring his hometown.
This was contained in a statement signed by Chief Oyewale Basiru Oyeleke, from Eesa Ido-Osun.
He said:
âOur community has hosted this airport for decades. Over N20 billion has already been invested in this project by previous administrations. Moving it to Ede is not only unfair but wasteful.
âWe appeal to President Tinubu to call Governor Adeleke to order. This decision must be reversed in the interest of justice and equity.
âGiven the history of conflict, this move risks inciting communal clashes.
âThis is part of an expansionist agenda that we will resist with all our might,â the statement declared.
âThe government must act in the interest of all citizens, not a select few.
âWe will explore all legal and peaceful avenues to protect our heritage and rights.
âThis insensitive agenda could escalate into unrest, and we hold the government responsible for any fallout.
âThis is not just about infrastructure; it is about respect for our identity and contribution to the stateâs progress.â
