Federal Government retirees have blamed PenCom for the delay in salaries of Federal government workers since 2020.
One of retirees who spoke to DAILY POST and pleaded to be anonymous said the verification exercise has affected delay in payment of salaries for retirees.
His comment is coming days after the Director-General, National Pension Commission, Aisha Umar, confirmed that the Federal Government workers who retired from March 2020 to March 2021 have not been paid their pensions.
According to him, PenCom has not carried out mandatory verification exercises since 2020 to enable retirees receive their savings.
He lamented that the verification by PenCom is supposed to be carried out six months before retirement in order to enable Pencom and PFAs process the verified documents.
“I want to draw your attention to an important issue in respect of PENCOM foot dragging of verification exercise of FG retirees since last year, using COVID-19 social distancing as an excuse.
“The fact remains that since last year, the PENCOM has not carried out the mandatory verification exercises to enable the retirees have their savings soon.
“I later found out from one of the PFAs that it has been proposed to them to allow the PFAs carry out the exercise, using their several branches in every state of the federation instead of the 6 zonal arrangements being used by PENCOM. But nothing has been done since, thereby, putting us in a hopeless situation.”
He also complained about the logistics in the registration exercise.
“Why would they not send their officers to liaise with every PFA in each state to carry out the exercise for retirees in each state, instead of the jamboree of asking the retirees from about six states to converge at a location ,” he queried.
